Our site for Domus was Kakadu in the tropics. the design of our house was based mostly around the idea of controlling the climate and using it to our advantage. Hence we tried to create a unity between indoor and outdoor living, even going as far as to break from tradition and have an outdoor dining room and walkway beacuse the unique climate allows outdoor living year round. Our other main concern was to encourage windflow through the building to cool it, which we did having all rooms single depth along the east/west axis as the predominate wind direction was NW and SE and by raising the building off the ground to allow airflow off the building. We also used louvre windows to allow the maximum airflow and to completely shut out the sun. One of our first designs (above) was a conceptual design based on the idea of windflow. basically each room was a tube o wind tunnel which encouraged maximum airflow. Our final design was a development of this idea.
